About the Book:
This 98-page book measures 6" x 9" and contains 5 Chapters, a Virginia wine quiz, plus 24 images and 3 tables resulting from 4-years of extensive research by the author.
The five chapters takes you on a tour that includes the Manassas Battlefield where a winery once
operated and to nearby Haymarket, VA where wine making and viticulture once
thrived during the 1800s. The author then takes you to the City of Manassas and on to
Washington, DC where a wine maker there made a prize winning wine from
grapes grown in the City of Manassas in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
After living in the County for nearly 40-years, the author establishes a base line of information about the County's rich history in wine making. Two notables, Chris Pearmund and Don Wilson endorsed the book noting that the information presented is factual and accurate as well as establishing a baseline reference about wine making in Prince William County.
Reviews:
"As a writer who specializes in history-related articles, I found Ray's
book packed with fascinating hard-to-find facts about the wine industry in
Prince William County. His work is thorough and weaves interesting stories
about wineries that many never knew existed decades ago. I would highly
recommend this book which will give readers a renewed appreciation for the
history all around us!"
Heidi Baumstark, Virginia Historian and Writer
"...I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book I have read it cover to cover
several times. Your words paint a beautiful picture of a time in our history
that provided inspiration for me as I worked through my project. It's the local
history that kept me motivated that the "vision" can be realized because we are
simply bringing back something that's already been done before just long ago in
time."
Jon Hickox, Owner, The Winery at Bull Run.
